Chaitanya Tamhane’s powerful debut feature Court wins the Best Feature Film at the 62nd National Film Awards. Court has been on a roll and picked up 17 international awards across the globe.
Mitraa (penned by veteran writer Vijay Tendulkar) picked up the National Award for the Best Short Film. Malyalam film Ottal picked up Best Adapted Screenplay Award, while J. Vignesh was awarded Best Child Artist for Kaakkaa Muttai. Bengali film Chotushkone bagged three awards: Best Director, Best Original Screenplay an Best Cinematography.
Kangana Ranaut’s stellar performace as ‘Rani’ in Vikas Bhal’s Queen has got her the National Award for the Best Actress, it was announced today. This is her second National Award. Earlier in 2008, Kangana won the National Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as a drug addicted model in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion. Kannada actor Vijay picked up the National Award for Best Actor for the film Nanu Avanalla Avalu.
Court is set to release nationwide on April 17
Critically acclaimed Marathi film Killa was named Best Marathi Film, Harivu won Best Kannada Film, Nirbashito won Best Bengali Film, Ain won Best Malyalam Film and Othello won Best Assamese Film.
The National Awards will be handed out later on May 3 by President Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi’s Vigyan Bhavan. Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor will also receive his Dadasaheb Phalke award at the ceremony.
