The Mumbai film festival (MFF or MAMI as it is popularly known) has announced the names of their new board members. The earlier board was headed by veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal with actors Amol Palekar, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi being a part of it. In what can be termed as a passing the mantle to the next generation, the new board of trustees will be headed by filmmaker Kiran Rao as Chairperson and noted film critic Anupama Chopra as Festival Director. The trustees also include filmmakers Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar, Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap.

Last year , the festival was on the verge of closure after a major corporate sponsor backed out. The festival however managed to survive as several film personalities and movie buffs came together and crowdfunded the festival. Following this, the Mumbai Film Festival saw new members join the board of trustees. This year, the festival is scheduled to take place from 29th October to 5th November 2015 in Mumbai.

It is perhaps the first time that two well known actors from contemporary Hindi cinema such as Riteish Deshmukh and Deepika Padukone also find their place amongst the MAMI board of trustees. The board also includes Siddharth Roy Kapur (MD - Disney India), Ajay Bijli (Chairman & MD - PVR Ltd) and Anand Mahindra (Chairman & MD - Mahindra Group).

The new MAMI board of trustees has an interesting mix of filmmakers, actors and people from the filmmaking business. We hope that the festival this year is bigger, better and has an exciting line up of films for cinema lovers this year.
