Very few filmmakers in India can claim to be relevant to film buffs over 3 decades and command a loyal fan following across multiple generations. Mani Ratnam is one of them.
When it comes to meeting Mani Ratnam, luck surely seems to be on our side. After attending an interactive session with him in Mumbai, a few months back, we witnessed him once again in person at the recently concluded BIFFES 2016.
Moderated by Ira Bhaskar, this masterclass saw the revered filmmaker share trivia on his films and reply to questions from an enthusiastic audience with an equal amount of wit and sarcasm. He also shared his views on censorship and talked about how filmmakers like K Balachander and Shyam Benegal inspired him as a filmmaker.
From sharing tips on sound designing to explaining why sound designers must opt for sync sound, Pookutty led an insightful and engaging discussion. Lastly he also spoke about why filmmakers must value sound designing but not forsake the story for it.
