The FTII students strike enters its 20th day tomorrow. The student strike, in response to the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the new FTII chairperson, has found support right across the board. The students claim that Chauhan's selection is politically motivated rather than on merit, given that he is a BJP supporter who lacks any credentials or qualifications to back his selection for such a prestigious role. And they sure do have a point, considering that luminaries like Shyam Benegal, Adoor Gopalkrishnan and Girish Karnad have served as FTII Chairpersons in the past.
Now finally the Information and Broadcasting ministry has agreed to meet with the FTII student council regarding this issue. However the students are intent on continuing their protests and are organizing a peaceful protest march in Pune tomorrow, 1st July. Called the 'Question March’, it will start at 11 am from FTII gate and will continue till Bal Gandharva Rangmandir, Pune.

If you support the FTII protests and do identify with their cause, then be there at FTII at 11 am.
