One of the most most talked about documentaries on current Indian political scenario is Proposition for a Revolution by Khushboo Ranka and Vinay Shukla. The film is about the rise of anti-corruption protests in India and the formation and rise to power of the Aam Aadmi Party. It aims to chronicle the journey of the party from its formation in December 2012 to the Delhi state elections in December 2013.

Last year Proposition for a Revolution won the Best Film Award in documentary category at NFDC WIP Lab. “NFDC provides a very vibrant forum for documentary filmmakers. This is quite rare in India.  If we see abroad there are several platforms for budding fimmakers, like BFI, SIFF and so on. But in India we don't have too many options. NFDC is quite encouraging for filmmakers like us who know what their film is about but need guidelines from the experts ” Says Khushboo.

“At NFDC we got to interact with mentors from all over the world. Their feedback has helped us immensely during the post production. Networking is one of the great aspect at NFDC. We met so many people, made so many new alliances. We got to know about several new techniques which is according to me is crucial. All this helps to build up not only  the current project but the next projects as well,” said Vinay.

The makers have shot over 400 hours of footage and are at the post production stage. So far they have won Asian Cinema Fund 2014 and IDFA Bertha Grant for documentaries. The  pitch also won Best Project (Special Mention) and The Docedge Chandy Mathew Catalyst Fund at DocEdge.

“According to me documentary filmmakers in India must associate themselves with platforms like NFDC. One must take the feedback with an open mind. What I would suggest is go to NFDC at a stage where your footage is ready for opinions. Don’t go at premature phase. Also be prepared for the last minute edits,” Concludes Vinay.

Deadline for NFDC WIP Lab (Documentary) is 10th of October.
