The ‘Hollywood New Wave' produced some of the most remarkable names in the cinema world today. Francis Coppola was one of them. He is best known for the The Godfather series as well as The Conversation & Apocalypse Now.

In this video by Academy of Achievement, Coppola talks about his early years, how he got into the film world, what inspires him and the advice he would give to the aspiring filmmakers. Coppola vividly remembers watching October: Ten Days That Shook The World by Sergei Eisenstein and Grigori Aleksandrov and the impact it had on him!

Coppola talks about his childhood days when he was affected by polio and spent most of his time watching televisions, listing to radio and taking interest in theater. It was during these days, one fine afternoon, he went to watch October: Ten Days That Shook The World and was completely taken in by the power of cinema!

In the video Francis Coppola tells us that the decisions he was  most criticized for are actually the ones most discussed today. He reinforces the idea of being courageous and following the instinct if one wants to make a powerful and meaningful film. In his words “to use technology to create magic is what appeals to me”
