Placebo, the highly acclaimed hybrid documentary, will compete at the Global Health Competition at this year's Cleveland International Film Festival. Not only that, the director, Abhay Kumar will feature at the New Direction panel at the festival. The ground-breaking program showcases debut feature-length directors whose innovative films transform the traditional notions of cinematic storytelling.
Born in Chandigarh, Abhay Kumar studied mass communication in New Delhi. His short film 'Just That Sort Of Day' won numerous awards including the National Award for best narration in a non feature film and across festivals like Busan & NYIFF.
According to CIFF,
"Abhay is amongst 10 first time filmmakers who are breaking the mold at an early stage of their careers, presenting original visions, structures, and devices - thus proving film will forever be an evolving art form."
Kumar’s Placebo is a chilling examination of one of the most competitive institutions in the world, a premiere educational institute in New Delhi and it’s student body, plagued by overwhelming pressure from parents, faculty, administrators, other students, and themselves.
The New Direction panel will take place on March 21st and is one of the Special Programs at CLFF 2015. For more info on the festival, click here.
