Directed by Ruchika Oberoi, Island City narrates three different stories that are set in Mumbai. The film starring Vinay Pathak, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Amruta Subhash and Chandan Roy Sanyal among others is competing in the Venice Days sidebar and will premiere today (September 8, 2015) at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival.

The first is about a middle-aged man who wins the office ‘Fun Committee Award’, that entitles him to a whole day full of fun, however he is reluctant to enjoy these benefits. The second story is that of an autocratic man whose family brings home a television set, while he is critically ill and admitted to a hospital. The third story centers on Aarti, whose dull and dreary life changes thanks to the arrival of a letter.

Island City is the debut feature of director Ruchika Oberoi who is an FTII graduate. The script of the film was a part of the NFDC Screenwriters Lab 2012. The film is being co-produced by NFDC, who have tied up with Stray Dogs for the international distribution of the film.

Previously NFDC's international Co-production Chauthi Koot directed by Gurvinder Singh  was premiered this year at Cannes and competed in the Un Certain Regard section. Besides this, director Partho Sen-Gupta's Arunoday has won several awards in the international festival circuit, including the recent Durban International Film Festival, where it won the Best Film Award and Best Cinematography Award.
