From The World Of Film Festivals

To mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore, films from Singapore are set to be screened in New Delhi in a festival. The festival, which will be organised on August 13, August 14 and August 16, has been themed on “Stories from the Heartland”. Heartland is a commonly used term in Singapore to refer to the towns and neighbourhoods where people live, gather and play.

The Deauville American Film Festival is set to pay homage to American star Keanu Reeves during its 41st edition which is set to take place Sept.4-14. As part of the tribute, Deauville will host a retrospective of Reeves’s most popular movies.

A new feature length documentary film about the life of soul singer Sharon Jones will make its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival next month. Directed by two-time Academy Award winning director Barbara Kopple, Miss Sharon Jones! will make its world premiere at TIFF in September.

Fresh From The Field

Leonardo DiCaprio will star in the long-in-development The Devil in the White City with Martin Scorsese directing for Paramount. DiCaprio will play H.H. Holmes, who murdered between 27 and 200 people, mostly single young women.

Tom Hardy is on board to produce and possibly star in New Line’s adaptation of the Vertigo comic book 100 Bullets. Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso’s acclaimed comic follows a man who presents various people with a gun, the identity of the person who ruined their lives and a hundred rounds of untraceable ammunition. Plot details are currently being kept under wraps.

One For The Eye

The first official trailer has debuted for a documentary called Welcome to Leith, that played at many festivals after premiering at Sundance earlier this year. The doc profiles a small town in North Dakota called Leith, a tiny "ghost town" that gets taken over by a notorious white supremacist named Craig Cobb.
