Visual Effects or VFX is a vital component of the movies. It is this technology that enables directors to let their imagination run wild on celluloid and create enchanting visuals and a world rooted far away from reality.
Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) is the most critical component of VFX as it is the CGI which makes it possible to execute the visual effects we see in the movies.
Quite often it is not feasible to employ CGI due to budget, time or other such practical constraints. In such a scenario, directors employ Practical Effects – an effective alternative to CGI.
Practical effects don’t involve usage of computers and rely on makeup, stop motion technique, clay modelling and blue screen effect amongst other things to make it work.
Cinefix, an online channel has made a video which compiles 10 such best practical effects that have been used in the movies.
The way these films have used practical effects can be described as nothing less than spectacular. This compilation also teaches directors an important lesson – that lack of feasible resources should never hinder one’s vision. In fact, one can always use these limited resources effectively to tell their story.
So which practical effect impressed you the most? Do let us know.
